The name 'Prologue' should probably point to this vehicle as being the first model of a new generation. In this case, it's probably not the engine performance that's meant, although it has again been considerably increased compared with the S8, presumably it's not the styling either. Here, it's more about the electronics. In addition, if the minister of transport is also brought into play, then the last hurdles towards piloted-driving in standard cars will have been taken. After all, Audi was the first to allow people from outside of the company to drive a car like this over a long distance in America. Even now, there is talk of this being possible for the next A8 or for the new A9, at a speed of up to 60 km/h. It is remarkable, that the car should have all the provisions, to raise its speed limit up to 140 km/h, through only a software update. Apparently they have no compunctions about committing themselves to the statement, that piloted driving will in fact, take place this year, and they don't mean simply the parking of the car without the interference of the driver, the car can do this already. In just how much of a hurry they are, is shown by the only four month span between the presentation of the Coupé and the Avant, the pictures of which are shown on this page. One can assume, that the Avant will also be suitable for piloted driving. Although Audi does emphasize it's qualities as an e-tron. This is also how it's system-performance comes to be. Neither has Audi forgone the possibility of a plug-in system. Their particular attention, would seem to be the operating concept, which particularly in the Coupé, is praised for being completely switchless. Here however, it is more strongly divided, whereas in the Avant, the three touch-screen displays run as a band across the dashboard. Something new, is the way that the driver and the passenger communicate. They don't have to actually talk to each other anymore, the passenger can swipe prepared contents onto the driver's display. With the OLED-display in the centre console, there are all together four of them, whereby this one is also suitable for written input. An OLED-display is something special anyhow, because it manages without any background lighting, is paper-thin and can be curved. Allegedly, the pictures offer an even better contrast than do customary displays. 04/15
